Boatpoking 101 is a fanciful way to describe what Boat Surveying is, for what reason, and what is involved.

Boat Surveying is in fact a thorough inspection of a vessel (recreational, commercial boats, launches, ships, etc.) to determine if the vessel is structurally sound, and safe for its intended purpose. Inspections also include electrical systems, with emphasis on U.S. Federal Code; as well as American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), UL Listing, and the United States Coast Guard Regulations regarding color coding, construction and type of wire used in circuits, along with fuses, breakers, and any other overload protection devices employed to keep the crew and passengers of a vessel safe.
Additionally, fuel systems, plumbing systems, and mechanical examinations are also performed along with visual inspection of hull bottoms, sides and deck structures.
